TRUCK TRAFFIC CONTROL

Truck Traffic Control Reclaims Public Space

Stantec BQEStantec developed a truck traffic control plan along the long-maligned Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) to reduce freight demand and enable other uses for the corridor.

Planners envisioned a transportation system to replace this much-maligned piece of highway infrastructure with community-focused mobility modes and other amenities. In addition, they wanted to reduce air and noise pollution and enable access to the waterfront and public space.

Download the case study to see the details, including:

  • How StreetLight’s Origin-Destination Metric indicated truck “hot spots” along the BQE
  • Transferring the trips in these hot spots from truck to marine or rail freight
  • Reducing daily freight trips through the corridor by 4,000 trucks
  • Opening opportunities for additional modes and create 90+ acres of reclaimed public space

Keep freight moving in your area, while also creating more livable spaces.
