Identifying Opportunities for Equitable Transportation Mode Shift

Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District asked Jacobs to help them understand the existing conditions to support a trail and bridge facility to equitably meet the needs of the community, and encourage mode shift away from vehicles.

StreetLight’s O-D Metric allowed Jacobs to study trip origins and destinations, travel times and distances, and travel subdivided into day parts for multiple zones.

See the metrics analysts studied, including:

  • How many people were driving into the target area from a bikeable distance of five miles or less
  • How important destinations (schools, shopping areas, etc.) related to existing travel trends and demographics in target zones
  • Demographic data to measure social equity impact for low-income individuals and communities of color

Learn how this Parks & Rec group identified trips ripe for potential mode shift, including a high percentage of trips in lower-income areas.
